Coast-to-Coast on a 95-Year-Old Harley

This story caught my eye. It tells of a coast-to-coast antique motorcycle race, the Motorcycle Cannonball Run, to start September 10, 2010 from Kitty Hawk, NC and end in Santa Monica, CA. One rider plans to ride a 1911 Harley-Davidson Silent Grey Fellow all the way. Here's an excerpt from an article appearing in the Simi Valley Acorn written by Angela Randazzo"

"While the antique motorcycle’s thrust pales in comparison to today’s street bikes capable of speeds in excess of 200 mph, Simi Valley resident Paul Watts, the proud owner of an 11F, is hoping the 95-year-old bike is capable of carrying him across the country." -- Angela Randazzo

Motorcycle Pastimes in the August Sun

It's been a slow week. Maybe people have finally decided to take a motorcycle vacation since gas prices are starting to inch downward again. Some have gone to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally but I hear that vendors and attendance there are taking a hit this year.

A lot of people are taking staycations this year. I guess I'm one of them. I have to save up to be able to participate in the Polar Bear Grand Tour that starts the last weekend of October. Gasoline for two trikes could end up costing $1000 for that six month tour throughout the winter. I take all the pictures at the various runs and maintain their website.

For those not out on their motorcycles, here's a few things you can do on my website:

Now if only they had motorcycle racing or motorcycle trials in the 2008 Summer Beijing Olympics, there would be more to do.

81 Years of BMW: A Motorcycle Picture Gallery

BMW began selling motorcycles in 1923, long before any BMW automobiles were even thought of.

I have started a BMW motorcycle picture gallery to contain all BMW models from 1923 to 2003 as submitted by Motorcycle Views visitors. A gallery called "81 Years of BMW" is provided that gives a picture and description for each model year.

Now it's true that after World War II, BMW was in a rebuilding period and did not produce any motorcycles for 1945-1947 and only 59 for 1948. So, there will be no pictures for those years unless you happen to have one of the rare 1948 models.

There are admittedly a lot of holes in this gallery. If you happen to have one of these BMWs or used to own one, please send me a picture and description so I can put it in the gallery. Here are the years I'm looking for:

    1923-1928
    1930-1939
    1942-1960
    1963-1965
    1968, 1970
    1972-1979
    1981, 1984
    1987-1990
    1993

Take a look at what we have so far in 81 Years of BMW and help us to grow this gallery of BMW motorcycles.
